The Red Zone : Murder and Mayhem in the NFL
The Red Zone is an ebook that I am currently working on and will hopefully be ready at some point during the football season. Check out the introduction below.
Introduction
All sports fans and, in particular North American football fans, are aware of the current Aaron Hernandez murder case. Almost everyone on the planet is aware of the name OJ Simpson. However, I was struck by an online blurb that listed murders committed by active athletes...that is athletes who were still performing at the time that they allegedly committed their violent crimes. It was a list of twenty athletes . The list included Olympic runner Oscar Pistorious and Charles Smith's case of hit and run causing two deaths back in 1991 when he was playing in the NBA. What really struck me about the list was that no less than ten of the twenty murder cases involved players from just one league...the National Football League. In comparison, there were two NBA players on the list. Two boxers. Two NHL players. One runner, two swimmers and one college football player with NFL aspirations. It is incredible to me that one half of all the athletes involved in this type of case were from one league. In this book we take a look at some of the murder and mayhem in the most successful professional league in the world.
